There’s a warm week ahead with temperatures reaching 21 degrees in parts, but there will be heavy showers and thunder at times too, Met Eireann has said.

Today is forecast to start off mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain in southern parts of Munster and Leinster early this morning and a few showers further north.

Met Eireann has said that it will brighten up with sunny spells and will become dry apart from one or two showers near west and north coasts.

Highest temperatures today will range between 15 and 19 degrees with moderate west to southwest breezes.

Tonight is forecast to be mainly dry with clear spells, with a few showers on west and north coasts. Lowest temperatures will range between 9 and 12 degrees.

Over the weekend, some parts of the midlands got three times more rainfall than normal last week with 48mm of rain falling in places due to torrential downpours.

During the coming week, computer model predictions from Met Eireann indicate a much drier period than normal in all parts of the country except perhaps along the Atlantic seaboard.

Drying will become generally good this week with dry weather and there will be good opportunities for spaying.

Tuesday

There will be some sunny spells on Tuesday morning, but Met Eireann has said it will become mostly cloudy with showery rain developing in the west and spreading eastwards through the late morning and afternoon.

There will be some dry intervals also and it will be warm with highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees.

Tuesday night is forecast to be mainly dry with clear spells, however, showery rain will move in from the west overnight. Lowest temperatures on Tuesday night will range between 10 and 12 degrees.

A band of showery rain will then move eastwards across the country during Wednesday and could be heavy at times. Highest temperatures are forecast to be in the region of 16 to 19 degrees with light to moderate southerly breezes.

Friday

Current indications for Met Eireann suggest that Friday will bring a mix of sunshine and heavy showers, some of them thundery.

It will be warm on Friday, with highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees.

Outlook for next weekend

Met Eireann has said that Saturday will have good sunny spells and some showers but they won’t be as heavy or as widespread as on Friday. Highest temperatures will range between 16 to 19 degrees.
