The Munster Angus Breeders held its mid-season sale on Saturday, April 19, at Kilmallock Mart, Co. Limerick, where "top-quality bulls met with a very strong trade", according to a sale report from the society.

Out of the 42 bulls catalogued, 30 were offered for sale with an 84% clearance rate achieved.

The event attracted a large crowd and saw very active bidding "reflecting buyers' continued trust in breeders to deliver quality cattle", according to the sale organisers.

All bulls presented were breeder-bred, genomic tested, inspected, and weighed upon entry to the mart, and all were fertility tested.

Auctioneer Denis Barrett oversaw an 84% clearance rate, down from 94% in the previous sale earlier this month, with an average price of €3,410 which was up €250 from the same sale of 2024.

Seven bulls achieved prices of €4,000 or more, and attracted a broad customer base, including dairy, suckler, and pedigree herds.

Michael O'Connor, from Banteer in Cork was the pre-sale show judge and he selected Glankeagh Walarado, from the herd of Aidan Crowley from Charleville, Co. Cork, as the show champion.

Waldarado is a July-2023-born 5-star son of Glankeagh Tolarado. Walarado went on to sell for €4,300.

Reserve champion went to Cahermurphy Alexander, who was from the herd of Pat Pender, Kilmihil, Co. Clare. Alexander is a April-2024-born 5-star son of Curraghtarsna Sammy and he sold for €4,000.

The highest price of the day went to Lot 16 Inishine Axe, who achieved €4,600 from the herd of Denis and Donal O'Riordan from Macroom, Co. Cork. Axe was a January-2024-born 5-star son of Cooldaniel Rekie.

The O’Riordan family's second entry was Lot 18, Inishine America, also a 5-star son of Cooldaniel Rekie, who achieved €4,400.
