Budget 2026 Special - what it means for farmers

In this special budget episode of 'AgriFocus', Francess McDonnell was joined by Alison McHugh, EY Ireland tax partner and head of private client services, to take a look at key measures announced today in Budget 2026.

Alison highlights what could benefit farmers, particularly in relation to four agri-tax reliefs that were due to expire in 2025 and which have now been extended out to 2029.

One of these is the 100% Young Trained Farmer Stamp Duty Relief, which is valued at around €20 million annually.

The Dairy Trail: Milking over 360 cows on two milking platforms

In the first episode of Agriland's latest limited podcast series 'The Dairy Trail', broadcast on February 17, technical dairy journalist, Hugh Harney takes a trip to Brian Rushe’s dairy farm in Derrinturn, Co. Kildare.

Brian Rushe, who is also the former deputy president of the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA), is milking over 360 cows on two milking platforms in 2025.

In the episode, Brian explains how he has been managing his calving season, as he has over 130 cows calved down to date.

The Beef Brief: Store-to-beef enterprise on a leased farm in Co. Kilkenny

In this limited podcast series produced by Agriland, technical beef journalist Breifne O’Brien travelled around the country talking to beef farmers about the challenges they currently face and how they run their farm.

On this episode from June 25, Breifne talks to beef farmer Jack Maguire about his store-to-beef enterprise on a leased farm in Kilmacow, Co. Kilkenny.

We also hear about Jack’s social media content, how he manages his time with a full-time off farm job also, and how good grass management is essential to the profitability of his farm.
