A Status Yellow wind warning has been issued by Met Éireann for the full country this weekend with severe gusts possible in places.

Issued at 11:00am this morning (Thursday, October 29), the alert will come into effect at 1:00am on Saturday morning (October 31) and remain in place until 3:00pm that afternoon.

Across the country, Met Éireann warns that strong to gale force southerly winds will veer westerly. Some severe gusts are possible.

Meanwhile, a weather advisory notice has been issued for Ireland, which will be in force for the full weekend.

Issued at 10:00am this morning, this notice will be valid from 9:03pm on Friday night through to 6:00pm on Monday evening.

The national meteorological office warns that “very unsettled weather will occur over the Halloween weekend as a series of vigorous Atlantic weather systems pass close to Ireland”.

Spells of heavy rain will lead to surface and river flooding. [It will be] very windy/stormy at times with some severe and damaging gusts possible.

Some coastal flooding will be possible also due to the combination of low pressure, high tides and onshore winds. In addition, very high seas are anticipated.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow rainfall warning is currently in effect for counties: Galway; Mayo; Roscommon; Sligo; Leitrim; Donegal; Clare; Cork; Kerry; and Limerick.

This alert came into effect at 12:01am this morning and will remain in force until 6:00am tomorrow.

In affected counties, Met Éireann warns that heavy and persistent rain overnight last night and through to tomorrow morning will lead to some flooding and disruption.

Accumulations of 30mm to 60mm are expected widely, with higher values in mountainous regions.
