Police are appealing for information in relation to an incident where a wheel flew off a livestock trailer and killed a dog walker in Devon, England, earlier this week.

The incident occurred in Newton Abbot, according to Devon and Cornwall Police which has appealed for witnesses to come forward.

In a statement on the matter yesterday (Wednesday, September 2), a police spokesperson said:

“At around 10:25am on Tuesday, September 1, a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian occurred on the A38 dual carriageway near to Heathfield, Newton Abbot.

“This happened on the Exeter-bound carriageway.

A Mitsubishi L200 was towing a livestock trailer when the trailer lost a wheel which collided with a 79-year-old male pedestrian who was walking his dog along the pavement.

“Tragically, the local man lost his life at the scene.

“His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by a family liaison officer,” the police spokesperson said.

“Any witnesses of the collision are asked to contact the police on 101, quoting log 261 of September 1, 2020.

“Police would like to thank the members of the public for their patience whilst we investigated the scene,” the Devon and Cornwall Police representative concluded.
