After a dry and cloudy start to the week, rain is set to return from Wednesday on as the weather becomes more unsettled, Met Eireann has forecast.
Today, Monday, will be a dry day after mist and fog clears in the morning. It is promised to be mostly cloudy with a few bright or brief sunny spells.
Maximum temperatures today are forecast to range between 8 and 11 degrees Celsius, in light westerly or variable breezes.
It is to remain mostly dry tonight with slack winds however, a few patches of mist or fog may develop.
Minimum temperatures will range between 2 to 5 degrees generally, but Met Eireann has suggested that values could fall close to freezing in one or two spots in parts of Munster and south Leinster where any breaks in cloud occur.
A few patches of drizzle may develop on western and southern coasts as maximum temperatures reach between 8 and 11 degrees, in a light southerly or variable breeze.
It is forecast to be mostly cloudy on Tuesday night, with patches of rain and drizzle, mainly in the western half of the country.
It will be misty in many areas, with some fog patches, especially on Atlantic coasts and on hills as minimum temperatures range between 2 and 5 degrees, in a light southerly breeze.
Looking to Wednesday and Met Eireann has forecast for some bright or sunny spells to develop, but there will be a good deal of cloud, with a few patches of rain, or some scattered showers.
On Wednesday night, a spell of more persistent rain is promised to spread across the country, with freshening southerly winds.
Thursday will start off breezy and wet in the morning, with widespread rain forecast at first.
It will turn colder in the evening, with Met Eireann forecasting a risk of grass frost on Thursday night.
Current indications suggest that it will be mainly dry in the east on Good Friday, but rain will develop in western coastal areas in the afternoon.
This rain is promised to spread across the country later Friday and Friday night, with a risk of some heavy falls.
Looking to Easter weekend, it looks set to remain cool and unsettled.
Wet and windy weather is promised on Saturday morning which will clear to brighter showery conditions later on.
Some sunny spells are promised for Easter Sunday and Monday however, Met Eireann has forecast some heavy showers also and it will remain windy for most of the weekend.
