A farmer in the UK was hospitalised earlier this week after an 80ft fall when the tractor she was driving overturned, according to reports.

The 23-year-old woman was spreading slurry when the tractor she was driving is believed to have overturned and slid down a steep bank.

The farmer was reportedly thrown from the tractor in the process and fell 80ft into a wooded gully. The incident took place on Tuesday morning, August 8, at Leighton Hall, near Masham, in the Yorkshire Dales.

Volunteers from the Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team assisted paramedics in stretchering the casualty out of the gully, before a helicopter was used to transport the farmer to hospital.

The young woman suffered a suspected back injury in the fall. It is understood that the Health and Safety Executive will be investigating the incident.

Antrim farmer laid to rest

Yesterday a farmer in Co. Antrim was laid to rest, after suffering fatal injuries in an accident on his farm at the weekend.

The man was named locally as James Moore, a part-time farmer. Moore – who was in his late 40s – was killed while at his own farm in the Lowtown Road area of Templepatrick, which is just a couple of miles north of Belfast, on Sunday, August 5.

It is believed a tractor was involved in the accident in which Moore was fatally injured. The Health and Safety Executive of Northern Ireland (HSENI) is believed to be investigating the incident.

This is believed to the third farm fatality recorded in Northern Ireland in 2017 and it occurred just over a week after the Farm Safety Week initiative came to an end.
