Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for Connacht and counties Donegal, Clare and Kerry.

Issued today (Sunday, November 22), the warning is valid from 2:00pm Monday (November 23) until 2:00pm Tuesday (November 24).

Meanwhile, today will be cool and bright with sunny spells and scattered showers. Parts of east Leinster will stay mainly dry. Highest temperatures of 7° to 9° are expected, with a light to moderate west to southwest breeze.

Tonight will be dry with clear spells, apart from a few lingering showers in the northwest and some showers developing in the southwest towards the morning. It will be cold, with lowest temperatures of 0° to 4°, with frost developing in many areas, coldest in the southeast.

On Monday night, persistent or heavy rain will affect much of Ulster, Connacht and west Munster. Lowest temperatures of 5° to 9° are expected.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with persistent or heavy rain over the western half of the country and a risk of localised flooding. There’ll be some showers further east.

AgriLand spoke to Gerry last weekend, who is retiring soon after 26 years as mart manager of the Roscommon-based livestock mart.

Speaking about how the climate has changed over the last number of years and how it is impacting on farmers in this part of the country, Gerry explained: “Some of the best cattle in the country are found here in Roscommon and in the west of Ireland.”
