A Status Yellow rainfall warning has been issued by Met Éireann which is in effect for much of today, Tuesday, July 7.
Issued yesterday evening at 4:00pm, the alert came into effect at 4:00am this morning and will remain valid until 4:00pm this evening.
The warning will affect counties Galway, Mayo and Clare.
Meanwhile, for the country in general, it will be mostly cloudy today with outbreaks of rain, persistent and locally heavy in places, especially in Connacht, Met Éireann notes.
It will be misty, with hill and coastal fog, as well as maximum temperatures of 11° to 16°, coolest in the north.
Winds will be mostly light to moderate southeasterly, the national meteorological office added.
Tonight will see rain and drizzle in Munster and south Leinster continue overnight. It will be drier elsewhere with cloud gradually becoming patchier and clear spells developing in northern parts with minimum temperatures dropping here to 5° to 8°, elsewhere 9° to 13° in light to moderate cyclonic variable winds.
Elsewhere will be mostly dry with some sunny spells developing, the best of which will be in the northwest. Maximum temperatures of 12° to 16° are expected generally, while winds will be light easterly or variable, Met Éireann concluded.
