The Limerick Diecast Model & Diorama Show attracted a barrage of machinery fanatics – young and old – to the South Court Hotel on Sunday (September 10).

The focus of the gathering was diecast scale models – some for young, would-be farmers and other collectible items for older enthusiasts.

Many of the toys and scale models on show followed a farming theme; some were set into dioramas that clearly took endless hours to construct. But there were also models for those with a yearning for the construction and haulage sectors; countless miniature trucks, backhoes and excavators were dotted about the exhibition hall.

While many of the “pint-sized” tractors were off-the-shelf units, from the likes of Britains, Siku and Universal Hobbies, there were also many home conversions and scratch-built models – including nostalgia-inducing replicas from yesteryear.

The event was supported and sponsored by several “life-sized” entities, including contractor members of the FCI (association of Farm & Forestry Contractors in Ireland) and well-known machinery dealerships. M&M Diecast Models, based in Caherconlish, Co. Limerick, was also closely involved with the event.

This year’s exhibition was the seventh instalment; it was a busy family affair. These pictures (below) provide an overview of just some of the noteworthy sights.

Not every machine on display was in 1:32 or 1:16 scale. This Komatsu WA320 loading shovel – clearly owned by an agricultural contractor – was “life-sized”. It was one of a handful of machines on display outside the venue, enticing machinery fanatics through the door.
