A petition has gotten underway this week in an effort to prevent the sale of a golf course as farmland in Co. Tipperary.
The petition is part of a campaign by members of Ballykisteen Golf Club, located in Ballykisteen, Co. Tipperary, who are appealing alongside members of the local community to the Great National Hotel Group to “work on finding a solution that preserves” the amenity in the local community.
According to the petition, which has reached over 500 signatures since it was launched two days ago, the loss of Ballykisteen Golf Course “impacts the lives of the 400-plus members and the 20 employees that are directly and indirectly employed by the club”.
“Our understanding is that a contract for the sale of the land is to be signed and concluded this week with the golf course being sold as farmland.
“We are pleading with the hotel to do all in their power to preserve this facility for the locality,” the petition says.
