Met Éireann has issued the latest in a series of weather warnings this morning in the form of a Status Yellow low temperature / ice warning for Ireland.

The alert was issued at 11:00am by the national meteorological office this morning (Friday, January 8).

It will be valid from 5:00pm this evening through to 12:00pm tomorrow.

According to Met Éireann, during the warning period, there will be hazardous icy conditions in places with a widespread severe frost and pockets of freezing fog.

There will be improving conditions in the west and northwest from early Saturday morning, however, the forecaster added.

Looking at today’s weather, Met Éireann says that today will be dry with bright winter sunshine. However, well scattered wintry showers will occur too, with Ulster and east Leinster most at risk.

Highest temperatures will only be 1° to 5°, in mostly light to moderate northerly breezes. A severe frost will set in quickly after dark.

It will again be extremely cold tonight, with widespread frost and ice. It will be dry, calm and clear in many areas. However, some wintry showers will affect the east of Leinster. Temperatures will plummet to between -2° and -8°, with fog forming in some areas.

It will be extremely frosty and icy on Saturday morning (January 9) with freezing fog in parts too. Some wintry showers will affect the east of Leinster, with patchy rain and drizzle gradually moving into the west and northwest.
