The new extended National Dairy Council exhibit at this year’s National Ploughing Championships will showcase the best of Irish dairy, supported by different sports star guests each day.

Visitors can experience a flavour for the range of Irish dairy products from NDC member dairy co-ops in its ‘Co-op Marketplace’ with participants including Arrabawn, Aurivo, Glanbia, West Cork (Carbery (Dubliner Cheese), Bandon Vale, Clóna Dairies), North Cork Creameries and Thurles Fresh Milk.

Celebrity TV chef Brian McDermott will give free cookery demonstrations each day with the NDC to showcase the taste, versatility and excellence of the dairy produce.

Brian has worked with RTÉ’s Today Show, has presented a cookery slot on BBC Radio Foyle and is a regular contributor to many national events and press titles. He has been cooking professionally for over 25 years and runs a cookery school in Co. Donegal. You can see his NDC cookery demonstrations each day of the ploughing at 11.00am, 1.00pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

NDC Chief Executive Zoe Kavanagh confirmed that leading sports and fitness personalities will be with the NDC generally from 12 noon until 2.30pm each day.

Schedules are currently being finalised, but visitors can check the schedule on the NDC website closer to the date, or find out more on Facebook, Twitter or at the NDC stand during the Ploughing Championships.

NDC Sports Star Guests

Professional rugby icons Rob and Dave Kearney will make a special appearance on one of the days, to support the NDC’s new Powered by Dairy campaign.

The campaign features behind-the-scenes footage of Rob and Dave trying their hand at a variety of new and different types of exercise and sport, filmed in partnership with the Irish Institute of Sport.

“This is an entertaining but informative campaign which uses social media and the digital arena to bring sports enthusiasts on a journey, to learn about the importance of muscles and bones to their strength and performance; the role of protein in building and maintaining muscle; and the role of milk and dairy in sports nutrition,” Zoe Kavanagh.

Henry Shefflin, the 10 time All-Ireland hurling champion, will also be with the NDC for one of the ploughing days to highlight the 10 national finalists in the 2016 NDC and Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards at the Ploughing.

The national award programme identifies and awards a top dairy farmer each year and showcases the quality of our pasture-based dairy farming.

Karl Henry, one of Ireland’s most recognised personal trainers, will be with the NDC on Thursday September 22, 2016.

A leading fitness expert, tv and radio broadcaster, Irish Independent columnist and author, Karl will share his fitness and training tips and highlight the positive role that milk can play in sports nutrition, at whatever level you are active or engage in sports.

The NDC will have members of its nutrition team available to help with questions about the honest to goodness role of dairy in our diet throughout our life-stages.

The NDC exhibition will also feature a ‘strength’ test challenge, a penalty shoot out zone and the return of the ever popular photo booth – with a chances to win prizes each day of the Ploughing.
