Camross branch of Macra na Feirme, situated near Mountrath, Co. Laois, is preparing to host its annual fundraising summer barbecue this July.

Proceeds from the event will be split, with half the funds raised going to Laois Hospice, while the other half will be for Camross Macra, earmarked for various events that are planned for the coming year.

The barbecue is scheduled to take place in the Camross Inn (Bergin’s) on Saturday, July 15, with the fun set to kick off from 9:00pm.

Music will be provided on the night by the midlands-based act, DJ Jim Jam.

Tickets will cost €10 each, entitling the holder to a buffet-style barbecue meal and a chance to win a door prize. Door prizes in recent years have included a Kilkenny jersey signed by the Kilkenny hurling team and a Dublin jersey signed by the Dublin footballers.

There will also be raffle tickets on sale on the night, with a large range of prizes promised.

The barbecue, which has been an annual event in the area for several years, is described by members as an excellent community-bonding event, traditionally attracting a mixture of all ages from the surrounding areas.

Chairperson of Camross Macra Niamh Ryan said: “It will be a great way to spend a Saturday night, meeting new and old friends, enjoying some great food and dancing the night away with a great DJ while supporting a fantastic charity in Laois Hospice.

“Macra is a great organisation for 17 to 35-year-olds who are from farming or rural backgrounds, to get together and attend sports, drama and farming events, as well as table quizzes and social nights, among other things.

Nights like our barbecue give people a chance to get together and have fun. Everyone is welcome to join or attend events with us and see what they think of Macra.

Tickets can be purchased on the night or from members of Camross Macra. Further details can be found on the branch’s Facebook page.
