Macra na Feirme has announced that Denis Duggan has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the young farmers association.
Duggan is a native of Tipperary and brings a wealth of experience to the role and Macra na Feirme. He is currently the Senior Regional Development Officer with Enterprise Ireland.
Sean Finan, Macra na Feirme President said on behalf of the organisation he’s delighted to welcome Denis Duggan to Macra.
“I wish him the best of luck and every success in his new role and we all look forward to working with him.”
Duggan will commence his role with Macra on October 3, 2016. Speaking following the announcement that Macra would be looking for a new CEO earlier this year, Finan said that a five-year fixed-term contract was advertised for the position.
“The new chief executive will be involved in managing, leading and directing the staff cohort of the organisation.
“They will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation and to work with the president in the roll-out of services and activities,” Finan said.
The Macra CEO role has been vacant since the Macra AGM in May, after Edmond Connolly resigned from the position.
In March, the Macra President told members of the National Council that he had received the resignation of Connolly, who was to pursue a new job opportunity closer to home.
Connolly held the role since 2008 and upon his departure from Macra, Finan said that he had given great service to Macra since January 2008.
“I thank Edmond on behalf of the organisation for the significant contribution he has made to Macra na Feirme in that period,” he said.
