John Dalton has been appointed as the new President of the Irish Seed Trade Association (ISTA) following its recent AGM.
Dalton, of Daltons (Chancellors Mills), Kilkenny, will serve a two-year term as the ISTA President.
The incoming president will replace Tom Bryan of Boortmalt in Athy, Co. Kildare.
Dalton is a former president of the Irish Grain and Feed Association (IGFA) and a current committee member, ISTA says.
Dalton is also a board member of the Cereal Association of Ireland and he has been Managing Director of John Dalton and Sons Ltd., Chancellors Mills, for over 25 years.
The incoming president is keen to promote the role of the ISTA for the gain of tillage farmers and growers across the country, ISTA says.
In representing the commercial organisations within the seed industry, we are ensuring that the best varieties and standards are adhered to for the good of Irish tillage farmers.
“We strongly promote the use of only Certified Seed varieties, as this ensures Irish growers are using the best possible varieties for commercial gain while maintaining the integrity of our industry,” Dalton said.
Tom Bryan will serve as outgoing Vice-President, along with the new incoming vice-president Jim Gibbons of Germinal Seeds from Horse & Jockey, Co. Tipperary, the ISTA says.
The ISTA, established in 1914, represents 16 companies in Ireland including the Boortmalt Group, Drummonds Ltd. and Brett Brothers Ltd.
ISTA’s members represent the multipliers, producers and distributors of certified cereal seed in Ireland.
Having the most up to date technology and equipment to produce the best genetic seed is a key focus of ISTA to ensure the best varieties of seed are made available.
