A number of co-op stores and branches around the country are continuing to operate under strict Covid-19 protocols as Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions come into effect from today (Thursday, October 22).

AgriLand spoke to a number of Ireland’s largest dairy cooperatives to find out how they will operate as essential service providers over the next six-week period.

In a statement to AgriLand, a spokesperson for Lakeland Dairies said: “The network of Lakeland Agri Stores will continue to operate under the highest levels of Covid-19 prevention protocols ensuring the safety of our staff and customers at all times.

“The number one priority of Lakeland Agri continues to be the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff and our loyal customers as well as their families.

To ensure the safety of everyone in our stores, we continue to enforce government regulations on the wearing of face coverings / masks as well as limiting the number of people in stores, using perspex safety screens, ensuring social distancing at all times and we have hand sanitising stations in all of our stores.

“Due to our robust supply chain, our stores remain well stocked with key products available for farmers and customers. We are also operating deliveries as usual, in line with all necessary on-farm health and safety protocols.”

A representative for Kerry Group said that the protocol for the group’s agri-business branches since early march as an essential service continues.

The group will continue to apply them stringently and effectively throughout this period, the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, a Dairygold representative said: “As an essential retailer, all Dairygold Co-Op Superstores will remain open under the current Level 5 government restrictions.

All Co-Op Superstores will operate as normal with enhanced access control and strict instore protocols. These measures are in place to protect our staff and customers from Covid-19.

“Alternatively, you can shop online from the safety of your home at the Co-Op Superstores website for delivery direct to your home, farm or business,” the spokesperson said.

Finally, as previously reported by AgriLand, Glanbia earlier this month resumed its “call and collect” service among its co-ops.
