Pedigree Charolais cattle breed enthusiasts from across Ireland and further afield will be very familiar with the renowned Goldstar Charolais Herd which is set to host a production sale this coming weekend.

The production sale of Martin Ryan’s Goldstar pedigree Charolais heifers will take place on MartEye via timed auction in conjunction with Mid Tipperary Co Operative Livestock Mart, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Bidding in the timed auction will open on Friday, September 27 at 1:00p.m. and lots in the timed auction will close on Monday, September 30, at 7:00p.m.

As part of the event, the farm which is based near Thurles in Co. Tipperary, will host an open day on Saturday, September 28 from 12:00pm to 5:00p.m (Eircode: E41 PX85).

The sale will feature a total of 27 lots and will include in-calf heifers, maiden heifers, embryos and embryos.

The Goldstar Herd is well-known for producing top-quality stock and has produced multiple championship winners at national level.

The herd has exported pedigree Charolais cattle to countries including France, England, Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and the Czech Republic and has also bred five bulls that went into AI.

The herd was started in 1996 and today focuses on breeding females that will make excellent breeding females.

The Goldstar Herd genetics are very much pure French and each year several new French females are selected and added to the herd.

According to Martin: “This keeps new bloodlines available and adds diversity to the genetics available to our customers whether returning or new.”

Following the first production sale, seven animals were exported.

This year’s sale offers some exceptional females, including the following prize winners from Tullamore:

  • Junior Female Champion;
  • Reserve Senior Female Calf Champion;
  • Daughter and embryos from the Senior Female Champion.

The dam of the Junior Female Champion is Goldstar Pepite and was herself the Overall Charolais Champion at the National Livestock Show in 2022.

Stock in the sales are sired by bulls such as:

  • Neptune;
  • Orbi;
  • Invincible;
  • Goldstar Echo;
  • Jumper;
  • Goldstar Othello;
  • Pirate;
  • BallyM MyLove;
  • Infidele;
  • The embryo lots are sired by Nevers, Reglisse, and Neptune.

Potential customers are invited to attend the farm open day this Saturday to view the lots on offer in the timed auction.

This is the second production sale of Goldstar females to take place with seven animals exported from the previous production sale.
