This weekend is set to be a cold one according to Met Eireann, with mixed weather conditions expected during daylight hours.
Today will be mostly dry and sunny to start, while winds will be light and temperatures will reach 6° or 7°. In the afternoon cloud will increase in the west, bringing rain on to western coasts, which will start to spread eastwards across the country during the evening.
This evening and tonight the rain will be widespread and persistent.
However, rain will clear overnight from the west to scattered showers and clear spells. Winds will veer to the north-west as rain clears and will be mostly moderate.
Lowest overnight temperatures are expected to dip to between 1° and 3°.
Tomorrow
Tomorrow (Saturday, February 3) will see a lot of dry weather with sunny spells; however, showers are expected – some of sleet – and snow on hills and mountains.
The showers will be most frequent in the west and north, Met Eireann says.
Temperatures in the afternoon will be between 5° and 7° – and winds will be fresh northwesterly in direction.
Sunday will be mostly dry with good sunshine for much of the country, according to the national meteorological office.
At times it will become cloudier along the east coast where there is a chance of rain or drizzle in the afternoon.
Light northerly winds will veer north-east to east during the day, becoming southeasterly by Sunday night. Daytime temperatures will range between 5° and 8°.
Sunday night will stay mainly dry, and under clear skies with light winds, temperatures will fall to between -2° and 0°. There will be a widespread sharp frost, Met Eireann warns.
