The fifth annual Flavours of Fingal County Show, held in the grounds of Newbridge House and Farm, Donabate, is taking place on Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25, this year.

Flavours of Fingal will showcase the best of Irish farming and artisan foods on the edge of Dublin city. Local farmers, working in conjunction with Fingal County Council and Fingal Tourism, are hosting the event.

Since its beginning in 2012, the show has been going from strength to strength. Crowds of over 55,000 are expected to visit the showgrounds over the two days.

Saturday, June 24, will feature the All Ireland Commercial Calf Competition, with an impressive prize fund of €15,000. Along with the many cattle classes, there will also be the Young Handlers competition for all of the young farmers.

On Sunday, the North Eastern club of the Irish Holstein Friesian Association is holding a calf competition. This will run alongside the dairy classes for local milk producers.

An array of sheep breeds will be on display on Saturday, while Sunday will see the showing of various classes.

For the horse enthusiasts, the equestrian section will host a wide range of equestrian activities including carriage driving, side-saddle displays, Irish Draught classes and a hound show, to take place on Sunday at 11:00am.

In addition to livestock, this year’s show will have an exhibition demonstrating farming techniques from 100 years ago. There will be horse ploughing, a farrier demonstration, and tilling, mowing and hay-making using restored machinery from bygone days.

Some more novel events will include a wood carving act and a performance by The Cavalry of Heroes, displaying horses, horsemanship, stunts and tricks.

Face-painting, sheepdog trials, a petting zoo, dog agility competitions and an “eclectic” line-up of live music will also feature.
