Would you know what to do if you found a family member or a neighbour unconscious or bleeding on the farm?

A course running in Kerry today and tomorrow on farm safety will show farmers how to react to a farm accident.

People attending the training will observe four incident scenarios; a gassing, a fall from a height, a machinery accident and an accident involving livestock.

Speaking to Agriland, Denis Brassil of Teagasc’s Kerry office said that actors will go through these scenarios and farmers will receive training from paramedics on how to deal with each scenario.

There will also be a quad accident demonstration where it will be shown what happens in the event of such an accident and the air rescue team is expected to take part as in a demonstration for an emergency response on the day.

Farmers will be shown how to perform CPR, what to do in the case of a spinal injury and a major bleed, he said.

There will then be a discussion about each of the incidents and farmers will be invited to ask questions.

Those who observe the incidents and the emergency response will also be met by a Teagasc Health and Safety Officer and two Health and Safety Authority (HSA) representatives.

Following the training course, farmers will know how to deal with these incidents and what response is required.

The farm emergency response training will run between 11-4pm, tomorrow June 10 near Killarney, to suit working farmers.

Places are limited and farmers interested in attending this free event should contact Denis Brassil 066-7125077 to book a place.
