A barbecue and evening of live music and dancing will be held by Wexford ICSA (Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers’ Association) on the farm of Robert and Patricia Furlong at Misterin House, Adamstown, Co. Wexford this coming Friday, September 1.

The social evening will kick off at 7:00pm and will run until late.

Host for the evening, Robert Furlong, spoke about the upcoming barbecue, saying: “Preparations are at an advanced stage now and we’re looking forward to welcoming farmers from right around the county to the farm here, for what will hopefully be an enjoyable and memorable evening.

“Music for the night will be supplied by Paddy Murphy of Route 66 fame, so be advised to bring your dancing shoes along,” he added.

Farmers are constantly under pressure working long hours – so here in Wexford ICSA we think it’s important for the farming community to come together for a social evening of food, chat and music.

Tickets priced at €20.00 are now available, and all food is included, the ICSA has said. To support this event and reserve tickets, it is recommended to ring the organisation on: 057-8662120.

BDGP II reference year appeals deadline

In other ICSA news, the ICSA’s Suckler Chairman John Halley has reminded farmers who have applied to participate in the Beef Data and Genomics Programme (BDGP) II scheme that the deadline for appealing their reference year is this Thursday, August 31.

Applicants were initially told a reference year of 2014 would be applicable; this reference year can now be appealed and changed to a reference year of 2017.

Halley explained: “This is a great opportunity for young farmers in particular who have been building up their stock numbers over the intervening years.

Changing the reference year to 2017 will allow these farmers to maximise what they can get of out the scheme.

“The ICSA would like to see as many farmers as possible benefiting from the scheme and this flexibility on the part of the department regarding a change of reference year is welcome indeed.”

Farmers must outline a valid case whereby 2017 would be a more appropriate reference year for their participation in the BDGP II scheme and have until August 31 to notify the Department of Agriculture.
