A farm death has occurred, in Cork, after a man fell when the roof he was standing on collapsed.
The accident happened outside Macroom on a farm cutting silage.
A Garda spokesperson said the 28-year-old man died on the farm at Inchisine, Macroom and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority are understood to be investigating the incident.
It brings to six the number of farm deaths this year on Irish farms. In January a man in his 60s died in Kilkenny when a loader fell on him. Then in March, two farm deaths occurred.
Last month, there was two farm accidents in one week after a farmer was crushed by a tractor and another died following an accident with a quad bike.
Last year, 17 people died in farming-related accidents on Irish farms.
According to the Health and Safety Authority, the fatality rate in agriculture is far higher than any other economic sector. A large proportion of all fatal workplace accidents occur in agriculture, even though a small proportion of the workforce is employed in farming.
The level of farm accidents is not decreasing. Similar accidents occur each year, with livestock, machinery and falls from heights three of the main causes of farm deaths.
