The Farm Contractors of Ireland (FCI) held a recent fundraising barbeque which raised over €18,000, of which €9,100 was donated to Embrace FARM.
The other half of the fundraising effort went to Galway Hospice.
Shane Nolan, Co. Clare tillage farmer and contractor, organised the event, the third annual fundraiser by FCI for a charity.
Tractors were lined up in a field and the barbeque was hosted in one of the sheds on the farm
“FCI asked me to host this year so on July 19, 2015 we had a barbeque in the yard. We displayed the machinery in the adjacent field, set up in one of the sheds like a restaurant on the farm.
The gates were locked and the keys taken out of all the tractors, so it was a safe and enclosed environment for the kids.
“It was €10 for entry and a lot of people donated money on top of this as well as food and soft drinks.
“We were very lucky on the day, Saturday was a washout and Sunday the sun was splitting the rocks,” he said.
The cheque was presented to Embrace FARM last weekend, and Norma Rohan a founder of Embrace FARM, said that they were delighted to get the funding.
Embrace FARM is also hosting its next information night in the Vienna Woods Hotel in Co. Cork on Sunday November 29.
“The sole purpose of the meetings is so families can connect with each other and there will be speakers there who have been affected by a bereavement on the farm,” she said.
