A total of €50,000 has been raised for charity by the UCD Agricultural Science Society (AgSoc) through a range of fundraising activities.
The record sum was raised throughout the 2016/17 academic year for two chosen charities – Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and Embrace FARM.
Members of UCD AgSoc were amazed at the success of their fundraising activities, according to AgSoc Auditor and final-year Agricultural Science student Sean Holian.
AgSoc continues to grow each year and it is very pleasing that the great work of AgSoc will once again contribute significantly to those in need.
The primary objective of the society is to provide an opportunity for students with a common interest to make friends and build networks while studying at UCD.
Meanwhile, the group’s fundraising and generous donations of monies raised has grown significantly in recent years.
“AgSoc is run solely by UCD Agricultural Science students and all funds raised annually are donated to worthy charities nominated by UCD’s School of Agriculture and Food Science students.
“Initiatives such as raffling a Charolais heifer, a charity boxing night, Ag Week and UCD Agriculture, Food Science and Human Nutrition Careers Day all contributed significantly to the total funds raised during 2016/17; while also serving as enjoyable social events,” Holian said.
Holian wished next year’s AgSoc committee the best of luck and encouraged all incoming students to UCD to get involved with the society.
We have all made great friends and contacts through getting involved with AgSoc throughout the past year and we look forward to meeting these people again in our future careers in the agri-food industry.
The AgSoc committee also thanked everyone who supported the society throughout the year, noting special thanks to each of their sponsors.
