As part of the ‘day in the life of a vet’ series, on Thursday (April 27), MSD Animal Health followed Pat Devine, veterinary practitioner with Lismore Veterinary Clinic and a member of XLVets Ireland.

Pat is currently busy with pre-breeding preparation including scanning cows, washing cows and sync programmes.

He also has a number of mares in his care and he had them to standing. Similar to Mulcair Veterinary, Pat had a number of castration procedures on horses and bulls.

The day also included a visit a piggery where Pat took blood samples and nasal swabs to monitor the health status of the piggery.

Lismore Vets

Lismore Veterinary Clinic is a three-vet mixed practice providing veterinary care to the animals of west Waterford.

Pat Devine qualified from University College Dublin (UCD) in 2010 and worked in various mixed and pig practices in Ireland and Australia before returning to work in Lismore in 2013.

A day in the life of Irish vets

XLVets Ireland in conjunction with MSD Animal Health undertook the ‘day in the life of a vet’ series over the past three days, where they shadowed a different vet and their team to chronical a day in the life of a vet live on Instagram.

Viewers have gotten the opportunity to follow each vet for the whole day to get an insight into just what a typical day looks like for a vet in practice.

They also get to learn about the vet’s practice, be introduced to the team and learn about different disease threats to watch out for at this time of year.

The series has been running all this week kicking off from 10:00a.m and finishing at 4:00p.m.
