September livestock slaughtering’s were up across all the meat categories statistics released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed today.

Cattle slaughtering’s were a particular highlight in September. Figures show that the amount of cattle slaughtered increased 13.8 per cent on the same month last year. In total 143,800 cattle were slaughtered last month.

Statistics for sheep also showed an improvement on last year in September. Sheep slaughtering’s were up 6.7 per cent on last year with a total of 276,500 sheep slaughtered in the month.

Pig slaughtering were also up slightly on the same period last year. Statistics show that 0.3 per cent more pigs were killed in September compared to the same period last year.
