Warm, dry weather with good sunny spells and highs of 22 degrees are forecast for this Sunday, making it ideal weather for Ireland’s largest one-day show.

The Tullamore Show and AIB National Livestock Show is celebrating its silver jubilee and takes place this Sunday, August 14.

Over 60,000 people are expected to attend this year’s show which attracts the best cattle, sheep, and equine breeders from across the country.

Here are six reasons you should make it to this year’s show:

1. It’s Ireland’s biggest livestock show

The Tullamore Show is Ireland’s biggest livestock event attracting the best in Ireland of dairy, pedigree and commercial cattle and sheep.

There are over 1,000 livestock competitions at this year’s show and there’s a total prize fund of €168,000 at this year’s event.

New classes have been added this year for Ayrshire Dairy Cattle, Blue Faced Leicester Sheep, and Pigs.

A visit to the livestock section is a must for anyone going to this year’s show.

2. Over 700 trade stands to view

The show takes place on 250ac of the Butterfield Estate in Blueball, Tullamore and this year over 700 trade stands are booked in.

There will be a wide range of businesses on show from machinery, equipment, motor, food, home, garden, lifestyle, clothing etc. There will be something to attract everyone’s attention.

3. It’s a fun day out for all the family

With a mixture of livestock shows, machinery, food stands and music there’s plenty to see and do for all the family.

There’s also a children’s entertainment area – so that the little people on the day are kept happy!

4. Macra/FBD Farm Skills Finals

There will be some healthy competition as the Macra/FBD Farm Skills Finals take place at Macra’s site at this year’s Tullamore Show.

Events will include tractor skills and fencing, with the competition beginning at noon. The winners being announced later in the evening. There will also be fun and games at the tent for all the family.

5. Neven Maguire and Bord Bia will be cooking up a storm

Bord Bia’s cookery demonstrations are back at this year’s Tullamore Show, with Celebrity Chef Neven Maguire and Bord Bia’s Food Advisor Sheila Kelly which will take place at 12 noon and 2.00pm.

Quality assured pork, beef and lamb dishes, all of which can provide quick and delicious meal solutions, will be on the menu at the show.

Both Sheila and Neven will be cooking with products carrying the Bord Bia Quality Mark, which means they have been produced to the highest quality standards and can be traced back to the farm.

As members of the Bord Bia Quality Programme, over 45,000 farmers and over 150 processors are passionate about achieving the highest standards of quality.

6. €1,000 up for grabs for the Best Dressed Lady

Traditionally associated with livestock and agriculture, the Tullamore Show also has an extensive fashion programme and this year, for the first time, there’s €1,000 up for grabs for the Best Dressed Lady.

The ‘best dressed’ competitions – that are free to enter on the day – draw people from across the country, as well.

The top prize is €1,000, a hotel stay and dinner in the 4-star Bridge House Hotel, along with a VIP tour of Tullamore in a limousine up for grabs for the Best Dressed Lady; on top of prizes for two runners-up.

There are also a great set of prizes on offer for the Best Dressed Man, Glamorous Granny, Young Mister and Miss Offaly, Traditional Farmer, and even a Bonny Baby competition.

This weekend the showgrounds for the 2016 Tullamore Show will be open from 6.30am for exhibitors and 8.30am for the general public.
