A 4X4 has been seized after the driver of the vehicle was stopped while drawing a trailer in Co. Cavan this week, according to An Garda Síochána.

The driver in question was stopped on Monday (November 30) by Gardaí attached to the Bailieboro Division in Co. Cavan, local Gardaí noted.

Upon being stopped it was discovered that the driver did not have a full driving licence, only holding a learner permit, with no L plates up and no insurance. Furthermore, the passenger was a disqualified driver.

As a result, the vehicle was seized with a court date to follow, Gardaí based in Cavan said.

Taking to social media yesterday (Tuesday, December 1), local Gardaí noted: “Yesterday [Monday] more uninsured drivers were detected on our roads.

“The Gardaí from Bailieboro stopped this jeep towing a trailer been driven by a learner permit holder with no L plates displayed and no insurance – the owner who was a passenger was himself disqualified – jeep seized and court to follow.”

According to the Road Safety Authority, the holder of a Category B Learner permit may not tow any trailer – whatever the size.

Trailer and generator stolen

Gardaí have issued an appeal for information as part of investigations into the theft of a trailer and a generator from a premises in Co. Monaghan in recent days.

The equipment was taken from a premises in the Ardaghy area of Co. Monaghan between Sunday evening, November 29, and Monday morning, November 30.

Taking to social media on Monday, Gardaí based in the Cavan/Monaghan area said:

The Gardaí in Monaghan are currently investigating a burglary that took place in the Greaghglass, Ardaghy area of Monaghan between 4:30pm yesterday, Sunday, November 29, and 9:00am this morning, Monday, November 30.

“A Brian James tipper trailer and a Jefferson 3.8KVA petrol generator were stolen.

“If you have any information that may assist, please contact Monaghan Garda Station on: 047-77240,” the Garda post said.
