Kildalton Agricultural College is selling 33 dairy heifers by tender. The deadline for the receipt of bids is March 7.

Surplus to the college’s herd, the heifers have strong EBI (Economic Breeding Index) values. Across the group, the heifers have an average EBI of €185 – ranging from €157 to €228 – which puts them firmly within the top 10% of animals classified under the breeding index.

The heifers are sired by a number of AI bulls, including: YAD; LWR; PCZ; SEW; YKG; BGJ; and PRW.

On the most recent weighing on February 1, the heifers stood at an average weight of 292kg; the heaviest heifer in the group weighed 365kg.

Bred on the basis of milk and fertility, all of the heifers have received the relevant vaccinations for IBR, BVD and a number of other diseases.

Last year, the college sold 24 heifers by this means and it intends to continue such a sale of surplus heifers on an annual basis.

Kildalton has prepared a catalogue, which features full details on all the animals to be included in the sale. This catalogue can be posted to interested parties and viewing of the heifers is also available prior to the close of the tender on March 7.
