Hundreds of Gardai in training are set to plough for charity at an upcoming event in Co. Tipperary in the coming weeks.
Set to take place at the end of November, this quirky affair will consist of approximately 300 student Gardai pulling a plough in Gurteen College, “ploughing in stereotypes of mental health” into the ground.
Samaritans of course has close links with providing support to those in the Irish agricultural sector.
In an interview with AgriLand back in the summer, Cindy O’Shea, regional director of Samaritans Ireland, highlighted that “rural isolation was one of the most pressing issues” raised by callers.
“Cultural markers that we have had in the past such as mass and the post office, have become difficult in terms of access; we now have a generation of people that find themselves very alone,” said O’ Shea.
