The AIB National Livestock Show Commercial Cattle Senior Championship was won by a heifer named Lucy for Michael Martin at the Tullamore Show in Offaly.

The animal, Lucy was judged the Champion beast in the commercial class for the show after winning the best heifer.

The prize was donated by the Ryan family of Willsborough in memory of their late father Michael, Michael exhibited commercial cattle all over Ireland and was a great supporter of Tullamore Show over the years.

Michael passed away in July and was represented at the Show by his wife Marjorie and son Eoin.

Michael and his family won many prices in the commercial beef section at the Tullamore Show and achieved the most prestigious award of overall Supreme Champion of Tullamore Show in 1995, the first and only time this was achieved with a commercial beef animal.

According to the family, which is still heavily involved in the beef industry, this accolade still takes pride and place in the family.

Over 60,000 people attended Sunday’s Tullamore Show where the Senior Holstein Friesian Champion went to Evergreen Duplex Ebony, Liam Murphy, Co Carlow.
