There’s a mixed bag of weather in store this weekend, with warm sunny spells and a scattering of showers forecast by Met Eireann.

Today, Friday will have a mixture of sunny intervals and isolated showers countrywide, but it is forecast to become generally dry in the evening.

Winds today will be light to moderate, southwesterly with highest temperatures ranging between 16 to 19 degrees Celsius.

This weekend, Met Eireann has forecast for warm sunny spells in all areas. However, cloud will build up at times also and it is forecast that there will be a scattering of showers with some locally heavy, thundery downpours possible.

Rainfall for the past seven days is running over 200% of normal for the bulk of the country and some parts are measuring higher than 400% of average total rainfall, according to Met Eireann.

Heavy thundery showers will drift up from the Bay of Biscay over the weekend and this will lead to further excessive rainfall for some parts of the country.

Highest temperatures over the weekend will range between 17 to 20 degrees.

Drying conditions over the weekend will be mixed and occasionally good, but poor in any rain on Saturday and there will be some opportunities for spraying over the next few days.

Current indications suggest that there will be warm sunny spells in all areas next week and overall a good deal of dry weather is likely.

Some patchy rain and drizzle is also forecast to occur, while maximum temperatures will be in the high teens to the low twenties.
