To mark the International Year of the Family Farm, Teagasc is producing a series of online videos highlighting the importance of family farms in Ireland.

The videos feature a variety of different families who tell their story and highlight aspects of their lives and why farming is important part of their family.

2014 is the UN Food and Agriculture ‘Year of the Family Farm’. Around the world, during this year, the profile of family farming and smallholders is being raised by focusing attention on its significant role in providing food security and nutrition, improving livelihoods, protecting the environment, and achieving sustainable development.

There are more than 500 million family farms in the world and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) estimates that family farms supply over 70% of the world’s food.
