Video: Audi makes crop marks at the Ploughing
To mark its inaugural visit to the National Ploughing Championships, Audi Ireland has created a 110m logo in a field in Carlow.
This month Audi Ireland, for the first time ever, will showcase their Q SUV family (Q3, Q5 and all-new Q7 models) equipped with quattro all-wheel drive technology at the 84th National Ploughing Championships in Co. Laois.
Audi Ireland teamed up with Carlow farmer and former National Ploughing Championship host George Byrne to re-create the Audi logo.
Byrne meticulously measured each individual circle and marked the land using GPS technology as a guide. He then cultivated the land on his tractor to create Audi’s iconic trademark, with stunning results.
The challenging project, took two days to measure and complete. Plotting the rings beforehand was crucial in ensuring each circle was perfect in its diameter resulting in an exact replica, Audi Ireland said.
Byrne worked out the plot points based on the size of the field and the diameter of the four rings. After cultivating one circle, he used this as the basis for the following three, ensuring each measured the same as the last as he went.
Located on one of the Byrne’s 50ac fields, the finished product measured an impressive 110m wide and 32m high.
“This was definitely a first for me but I really enjoyed creating the logo. I was delighted to be asked to take part and welcome Audi to our family farm,” Byrne said.
Christian Gussen, Audi Ireland Managing Director, said that Audi is looking forward to showcasing the Q SUV model range at the National Ploughing Championships this year.
“We feel the recently launched all-new Q7 will be the centre of attention at our stand thanks to its quattro all-wheel drive system and advanced assistance technology,” he said.
Audi Ireland will be located at Block 2, Row 31, Stand No. 611.
