In 2012, net subsidies accounted for 73.1 per cent of agricultural income at state level, this is according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

In an update today, the CSO noted net subsidies in the Border, Midland and Western region accounted for 94.9 per cent of agricultural income, while in the Southern and Eastern region net subsidies accounted for 61.5 per cent of agricultural income.

In addition, the CSO analysis of agriculture in the regions in the year 2012 also shows: more than 61 per cent of national cattle output was produced in the Southern and Eastern region; more than 80 per cent of milk output came from the Southern and Eastern region; some 80 per cent of national cereal output came from the Southern and Eastern region; and just under 55 per cent of national sheep and close to 48 per cent of national pig output came from the Border, Midland and Western region.
