South Longford Macra has won the National Dairy Council (NDC) All-Ireland Tag Rugby Final, the organisation says.

The final took place on Sunday, May 31, where South Longford beat Fermoy Macra from Avondhu, Cork at the Athboy Rugby club.

Macra na Feirme’s new National President Sean Finan congratulated South Longford Macra on the win, crediting their hard work and training for their success.

“Tag rugby is a great competition, keeping members fit and providing a fantastic social outlet. It caters for everyone, whether they participate in other sports or are looking for a fun team activity.

A special word of thanks to our health and wellbeing partners, the National Dairy Council who have provided us with information on a healthy lifestyle for our website macra.ie.

The winners have won a place on the Macra prizewinners trip later in the year, the organisation says.

Earlier this year, in his inaugural speech, new National President, Seán Finan, addressed Macra’s plans for informal training for young farmers with the support of Skillsnet.

He said that recently, Macra was approved for Skillnets funding which means it will be able to roll out a suite of training courses to young farmers in its young farmer development groups to help them improve their farm businesses and encourage young farmers to run efficient operations.

“I envisage Macra’s role in the provision of informal education through our activities and events with Teagasc maintaining the provision of formal education,” he said.
