A status yellow snow and ice warning has been issued by Met Eireann recently, with as much as 3cm expected to fall in some areas.

The warning was issued earlier today and it is set to be valid from 4:00pm tomorrow (Thursday, December 7) right through until 4:00pm on the following day (Friday, December 8).

During this 24-hour period, scattered snow showers are likely to occur. Slight to moderate accumulations are expected, with up to 3cm possible in some areas. There will also be a risk of icy stretches developing.

North and north-west counties will be most at risk, as well as higher ground elsewhere, according to Met Eireann.

Meanwhile, a number of status yellow wind warnings for parts of the country were issued yesterday evening (Tuesday, December 5).

A wind warning for counties Donegal, Mayo and Kerry has been valid since 6:00am this morning and it will run right through until 11:00pm tonight.

Southerly winds of between 50kph and 65kph are possible, while gusts may range from 90kph to 110kph along coastal areas on Wednesday, Met Eireann added.

As well as this, counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry will be affected by a wind warning tomorrow morning. This warning was issued in light of an Atlantic storm, dubbed Storm Caroline by the UK Met Office, which is forecast to pass close to the north coast of Scotland tomorrow morning.

Severe winds will affect parts of Scotland, but it will generate strong and blustery winds over Ireland also, Met Eireann explained.

The warning is set to be valid from 3:00am in the morning until 8:00pm tomorrow night. North-west winds of 55kph to 65kph are forecast, with gusts of between 100kph and 110kph possible. Strongest winds are likely in coastal areas and over high ground.
