Sheep farmers received good news today with the announcement of a funding boost for sheep fencing in mountainous areas. And the new funding is set to be rolled out next month.

Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney TD said he was aware some farmers in mountainous areas faced additional costs when erecting sheep fencing and that this funding would further encourage those farmers to participate in the scheme.

According to the department, the intention is that the current tranche under the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme will close as normal on 30 September 2013. Funding of at least €1.5m will then be available for the final tranche, which opens on 1 October 2013 and will close for the receipt of valid applications on 31 December 2013.

Farmers who wish to apply for grant-aid under the Scheme with effect from 1 October 2013 will be required to use the revised application forms that will be available on the Department’s website with effect from that date.
