A status yellow rainfall warning remains in place this morning, Monday, with further heavy rain expected over the coming days, according to Met Eireann.
Counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo were issued with a rainfall warning yesterday morning. This warning is valid until 12:00pm today. Accumulations of between 30mm to 50mm of rain were forecast.
This morning is set to be cool and blustery with sunny spells and occasional showers. There is a danger that these showers will be heavy in many areas and frequent across the midlands, north and west with a small risk of thunder.
Connacht, west Ulster and west Munster will bear the brunt of further scattered showers tonight – as the rest of the country is forecast to remain relatively dry. Temperatures may drop to below 10º.
Overall drying will be poor for the time of year, but there will be some periods of reasonably good drying due to strong winds over the next few days, Met Eireann added.
Tomorrow
Tomorrow morning, Tuesday, is forecast to be mainly dry, with sunny spells and just a few scattered showers along the west and northwest coastal areas.
Conditions may clear during the evening and early night, as temperatures reach highs of 17º. Tomorrow night will see clear spells develop in most places.
However, scattered showers are likely to occur – with the danger of some becoming heavy and possibly prolonged in Atlantic coastal counties. A risk of thunder will be most prominent in the northwest.
Wednesday
A mixture of cool conditions, sunny spells and scattered showers will be apparent on Wednesday, according to Met Eireann.
Again, some of these showers may turn heavy – with the possibility of some being hail showers. There is also a risk of scattered thunderstorms, especially in the north and west.
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach just 12º to 15º, in moderate west to southwest breezes. Clear spells are forecast overnight, with further scattered showers – mainly in Atlantic coastal counties.
Thursday
Another cool and breezy day is forecast on Thursday, with sunny spells and scattered showers. Temperatures will range from 13º to 16º, in moderate to fresh northwesterly winds.
However, showers will be less frequent than in previous days and Thursday night will be dry in most parts, Met Eireann added.
Outlook
A mixture of sunny spells and some scattered showers is forecast on Friday, with temperatures reaching the mid-teens.
Early indications for next weekend suggests that it will be mainly dry and settled, with just a few scattered showers likely on Saturday. It will be mainly dry on Sunday, with sunny spells and slack winds, Met Eireann concluded.
