Scottish Police have reportedly arrested a pensioner after uncovering a cannabis growing operation at a farm on the outskirts of Shotts, Scotland.
A 73-year-old man was arrested at the scene, after Police discovered 80 plants of cannabis in a garage on the farm, according to UK publication The Daily Record.
The pensioner was subsequently arrested under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
According to The Daily Record, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm a 73-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged drugs offences.
“Around 11:20am on Tuesday, January 23, police were called to a report of a fire at a property near Harthill, Shotts.
“On attendance, officers discovered a cannabis cultivation site at the rear of the property,” the spokesperson purportedly said.
The 73-year-old man has been released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date.
“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
Stolen farm property recovered
Meanwhile, on this side of the Irish Sea, Gardai are seeking the public’s assistance to locate the owners of a range of stolen farm equipment located in counties Carlow and Kilkenny last week.
Last Friday (January 26), an appeal for the owner of cattle feed barriers – which members of An Garda Siochana say were stolen and located in Co. Kilkenny – to come forward to claim their property was issued.
The Gardai seized a range of property, including: three vintage tractors – two Fords and a David Brown; a mini excavator; three trailers, including two Ifor Williams models; a generator; and hedge trimmers.
