Organic food awards deadline is Friday

The deadline for entries for the National Organic Awards is this Friday, September 5.

The Awards will take place in Bord Bia on October 14, but entries must be with Bord Bia before close of business tomorrow.

Linda Cullen, Food and Beverages Division, Bord Bia, said the awards mark the achievements of Irish organic food and drink growers and manufacturers.

This year there are six new categories for companies to enter, including Best Product (Fresh), Best Product (Processed), Best New Product, Export Award, Innovation Award and Direct Selling Award. There will also be a Lifetime Achievement Award to recognise and acknowledge outstanding contribution to the industry and development of the sector in Ireland. All entries will be judged by a panel of experts.

The awards offer PR and media opportunities for manufacturers with all shortlisted companies and winners promoted in print, broadcast and online media.

The awards are open to organic food and drink products manufactured or grown in the Republic of Ireland produced on a commercial level and available to purchase at the date of entry. Retailer brands are welcome and applications may be received from the retailer and/or the manufacturer. Products must be registered as organic under EU Regulation 834/2007 with certification from one of the recognised accredited bodies e.g. Organic Trust, IOFGA, Institute for Marketecology (IMO), Global Trust Certification Ltd (GTC) or B.D.A.A. – Demeter UK.
