UPDATE: Latest Agri Tenders: A new piggery and food testing facility at Moorerpark, Fermoy, Co Cork and a study into the development of a National Food Centre in Cork City are under way, according to two tenders issued this week.

Teagasc issued a tender for the construction of a piggery and food testing facility in Moorepark. The works involve the demolition of some existing agricultural buildings. The deadline for this tender is 21 August and is available here.

According to a statement from Teagasc, it is committed to the Irish pig sector and it has allocated funding to construct a modern state-of-the-art research facility incorporating a food test facility.

“This will enable Teagasc to conduct pig research as an essential component of an integrated pig research, knowledge transfer and training programme and to facilitate research on pigs connected to the evaluation of the health benefits of functional foods. The pig research unit will provide facilities for conducting research on various aspects of pig production including nutrition, pig health and welfare, meat quality, food safety, housing, husbandry and the environment. No comparable facility exists in Ireland and it will be one of few new facilities in Europe,” it added.

Also this week Cork City Council is inviting tenders for the provision of a feasibility study into the development of a National Food Centre in Cork City. The closing date for submission of this tender is 13 September. Details are available here.
