The cumulative throughput of cattle at beef export plants has dropped by 5%, figures from the Department of Agriculture show, as total throughput currently stands at 1.32m.
As of October 26, 2015, the cumulative national beef kill was back by 71,680 head on the corresponding period in 2014, figures from the Department of Agriculture show.
Total heifer throughput to Irish export plants has dropped by 4% or 12,786 head to October 26, 2015, compared to the same period in 2014.
The cumulative number of steers going to factories have increased on 2014 levels by 23,732 head, with 534,069 slaughtered to date in 2015.
There has also been a 33% reduction in the total young bull kill, with 41,664 fewer of these animals going to meat export plants in 2015 compared to the same period in 2014.
Figures from the Department of Agriculture also show that the total cow kill has also fallen by 32,824 and stands at 274,239 to date in 2015 while there has also been 8,442 fewer bull slaughterings.
Weekly Beef Kill Differences
Last week’s national beef kill currently sits at 30,053, figures from the Department of Agriculture show, this is a reduction of 556 head from the week commencing October 19 2015.
Steer throughput has decreased by 121 head on the previous week and stood at 14,780, this is a drop of 1%.
Figures from the Department of Agriculture also show that there were 6,815 heifers slaughtered last week, which is a fall of 118 from the week commencing October 19.
There has been an 11% reduction in young bull slaughterings and 1,758 head went to factories over the previous week.
These figures also show that there has been a drop in cow slaughterings with the weekly kill standing at 6,129 head, but the numbers of bulls coming forward have increased by 20% or 57 head on the previous week.
Mart Trade
The cattle trade in the country’s marts remains steady despite a noticeable increase in buyers around the ring, according to the country’s mart managers.
There has been good demand for beef animals with these lots selling from €1.55-2.86/kg and €1.75-2.60/kg for steers and heifers respectively.
The store cattle trade also remains buoyant with these lots making €1.65-2.70/kg for the forward classes and €1.60-3.11/kg for the lots weighing in the region of 400-500kg.
