The weather this weekend will be mixed according to Met Eireann, with some pleasant sunshine in parts of the south and east. However, it is forecast to be cooler early next week with sunshine and showers.

The last seven days has brought temperatures above the average for this time of year, with Tuesday being the hottest day of the year so far.

Today, Friday, will see early morning showers in the East clear, with good sunny spells forecast for the afternoon and highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees.

There will be a risk of drizzle in Atlantic coastal regions later on tonight and early on Saturday morning. The rest of the country will stay relatively dry with temperatures ranging from 9 to 12 degrees.

Saturday

Tomorrow, Saturday, will see outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards, turning persistent or heavy in the north. Temperatures will reach between 18 and 21 degrees with a light south to southwesterly breeze, according to Met Eireann.

Isolated showers are promised in the west and north of the country overnight, turning heavy at times. Saturday night will stay mild with lowest temperatures of around 13 to 16 degrees.

Sunday

Overnight rain will clear in most areas by late morning to make way for a drier, brighter afternoon, according to Met Eireann. Sunny spells will develop but scattered showers are promised to spread into northwest counties later that evening.

East Munster and Leinster will enjoy the best of the weather on Sunday afternoon with highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees.

Early Next Week

Met Eireann has forecast that early next week is to bring a mixture of sunny spells and showers, with most of the showers affecting Ulster and north Connacht.

Winds will veer northwest and temperatures will reach between 15 and 19 degrees, with the south east enjoying the brightest and driest weather.

Rainfall for the past week was below normal across the country, with measurements of just 5 to 10 mm. However, in the far north, rainfall was close to normal with nearly 20mm recorded.

Sunshine amounts for the past seven days were below normal in the west, but above in the east thanks to the recent abundant sunshine, according to Met Eireann.
