A man in his 80s has died following a farm accident in Co. Wexford today, a Garda spokesperson confirmed to Agriland.

An Garda Siochana confirmed that the accident occurred at 11.30 am this morning and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims body was removed to Waterford University Hospital were a postmortem will be carried out.

The incident happened in the Adamstown area and Gardai from Carrigbyrne were called to the scene of the accident.

The Health and Safety Authority has been notified and an investigation is set to get underway.

This is the first farming fatality to occur on an Irish farm in 2017 and it follows on from the 21 fatalities that occurred on Irish farms during 2016.

In December 2016, three people died while working on Irish farms.

HSA figures show that farming continues to be the most hazardous occupation in Ireland, consistently reporting the highest number of fatalities in comparison to other sectors over the last number of years.
