Macra’s youth leaders are bringing the drama to Limerick tomorrow the 22nd March – hosting a unique event ‘Drink, Drama and Debate’ – a one of a kind approach to the debate on alcohol abuse. Bringing the drinks industry together with youth representatives to a public debate with the theme “Youth Abusing Alcohol or Alcohol Abusing Youth” in the Castletroy Park Hotel from 2.00pm-4.30pm.

Using a unique and thought provoking format, the event will incorporate a dramatic sketch of the issue of alcohol abuse, followed by contributions from expert speakers on the subject of alcohol and alcohol abuse among Ireland’s young people.

“Recent incidents demonstrating the issue of alcohol abuse among young people make this an important and timely debate. This will be a lively discussion whose outcome will inform Macra’s approach to the issue going forward”, said Garvan Hickey, Chairman of Macra’s Rural Youth Initiative Committee.

The debate will be open to all participants to contribute to. The audience will predominately be made up of young people, ensuring a relevant and lively debate.

The abuse of alcohol is a major issue for young people in both urban and rural environments – Macra na Feirme aim to tackle this contentious topic and ensure that the industry, the Government and youth groups are working together to inform and protect the health and well being of young people.
