Lely is demonstrating its latest baler wrapper combination unit the 245 Tornado at this year’s FTMTA Grass and Muck event.

According to Lely, the Lely Welger RPC 245 Tornado represents the latest in baler wrapper combination technology, along with proven features including the hydroflex control, mechanical tailgate locking system and powersplit gearbox.

New feed rotor

The company reports that the machine incorporates the market leading Lely Welger RP245 fixed chamber baler and a new wrapping system.

It is fitted with a 800mm diameter feed rotor with the xtracut 25 knife chopping system to ensure excellent crop flow into the bale chamber.

The new baler wrapper combination is also fitted with 18 powergrip steel rollers and mechanical tailgate locking system, which is said to guarantee the highest bale density and optimum bale shape.

The  Lely Welger RPC 245 Tornado features a camless pick up, incorporating five tine bars which increase the balers capacity by over 20%.

And, it has less moving parts, no cam track and only 2 bearings. It is more reliable, less sensitive to wear quiet and maintenance free, the company reports.

When baling is complete the tailgate opens and the bale is guided onto the wrapping table via the transfer cradle.

The wrapping cycle begins before the tailgate is closed. The ring rotates up to a maximum speed of 35 rpm and wrapping speeds can be adjusted from the control box.

Exceptionally compact

The machinery manufacturer also says that the length and width of any combi system are two of the critical points of any design and this unit satisfies both of these criteria excellently.

The machine is pitched forward to allow the wrapping system to operate much closer to the baler and when wrapping is complete the ring is raised and the bale is gently tipped off either manually or automatically.

The wrapper can also be switched off when baling hay or straw.

The bale can be released immediately or retained until a second bale is formed and then both bales can be deposited together.

Additional features

The new baler wrapper combination unit also has a Pro link control box, which uses touch screen technology for all baler and wrapper functions.

The machine is also equipped with two cameras as standard which are linked to the control unit and give an excellent view of bale transfer to the wrapper and unloading.

Other Lely machines on display

The Kildare-based company will also be demonstrating its full range of grassland machinery at Grass and Muck 2016.
