Kepak Group, one of the largest meat processors in Ireland, has appointed Tipperary man Sean Coffey as its new Meat Division CEO.

The appointment comes following confirmation in recent weeks that the current head of Kepak’s Meat Division, Kevin Cahill will depart from the business.

A spokesperson for the Kepak Group confirmed that the current CEO of Kepak’s Meat Division is leaving to head up OSI’s European operations.

New CEO Sean Coffey is the current Head of Slow Cooked Foods and manager of key accounts within Kepak and has been with the company for over 10 years.

Kepak processes beef, lamb and pork in Ireland and beef and lamb in the UK. It processes about 250,000 cattle, 800,000 lambs and 300,000 pigs.

Departing Cahill first joined Kepak in 1992 and held a number of senior roles before taking up the CEO’s position.

Cahill is an All-Ireland football medal winner with Meath has been in charge of the meat division at Kepak since 2012, one of Ireland’s top meat-processing companies, which employees more than 2,000 people.

OSI is one of the largest privately-owned food processing companies in the world and its global network includes offices around the world and more than 60 facilities across the world.

It’s been a month of change at the top of Irish meat processing. Earlier this month ABP Food Group (ABP) announced that Paul Finnerty will retire from his role as CEO on September 30, 2016.

Frank Stephenson, current Group Chief Operations Officer, has been appointed as his successor stepping into the role on October 1, 2016.

Frank, 45 and a native of Co Kerry, joined ABP in January 2015 as Group Chief Operations Officer (COO). He brings to the Group a wide range of operational, financial and strategic experience in international agribusiness having worked for 20 years with Glanbia plc in a variety of senior management roles in Ireland, the UK and the USA.

His most recent role prior to joining ABP was as COO of Glanbia Performance Nutrition, a $1 billion revenue business based in Chicago, North America.
