AgriLand is delighted to announce the appointment of Jim Breen as editor.

Jim comes from an agricultural background, having grown up on a dairy farm in the midlands.

He is no stranger to agricultural journalism, having worked for both the Irish Farmers Journal and the Farming Independent.

Most recently, he worked for DAERA (Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development), heading up the Engineering Department at Greenmount Campus, CAFRE (College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise).

There, he managed DAERA’s agricultural engineering educational and training programmes and also acted as the Department’s agricultural mechanisation advisor.

Having originally trained as an engineer in UCD (University College Dublin), he has also played a key role in the development of agricultural engineering training programmes in the UK and Northern Ireland.

Speaking about the appointment, Cormac Farrelly, managing director, stated: “We are delighted that Jim has joined the team here at AgriLand. He comes on board at a time of huge growth for the company, both in terms of readership and commercial activity.

“In less than three and a half years we have become the largest dedicated agricultural news publisher in Ireland and, with it, seen a change across the industry from the historic print-first approach to the current digital-first news cycle.

The last year alone has seen most of the legacy agricultural print publishers put a renewed focus on digital content and, having led this evolution, we find ourselves in a leading position – continuing to innovate rather than imitate.

He added: “We are delighted to be now working with most of the innovative agricultural companies operating in the market. With the knowledge and experience that Jim brings, we are certain that this innovation can continue apace.

“Jim’s appointment will also enable us to branch into new content areas, as he motivates and directs our team of highly-skilled and dedicated agricultural journalists.”
